Reopening Begins July 6

Good news – the Social Center office will reopen on July 6, as well as some programs and activities. Other programs will be on a rolling start as guidelines become available.

Small groups that can follow precautions like social distancing and wearing masks will be able to resume meeting after July 6. We can accommodate interest groups of up to ten people. Details about Garden Club, Writers Group, American Legion, AFRI, ADK Speak Spanish, Memory Cafe and Pleasant Valley Quilters resuming will be available soon.

We anticipate that exercise classes and concerts will not be able to resume immediately upon phase four opening. These activities have been classified differently by NYS, like retail stores being allowed to reopen in phase two but not yet malls. We hope to learn more soon.

The reopening of Teen Rec will depend upon further guidance pertaining to school reopening. Pleasant Valley Chorale and the NYC Weekend Trip are unlikely for this fall. We look forward to resuming these programs as soon as it is prudent.

The building will not be available for one-time rental for meetings, parties, receptions, etc. until our regular programming and groups can all safely resume.

We are happy to see people using the courts and lawns during our closure. We ask everyone to continue to follow precautions: maintaining social distance, wearing a mask when a 6-foot distance cannot be maintained, and not sharing equipment with those outside of your household. The playground is closed per NYS guidelines.

After July 6, NYS will allow the following outdoor sports to resume:

  • higher risk sports like basketball/football/volleyball with individual or distanced group training, no/low contact group training (practice), but still no games/scrimmages/tournaments;

  • moderate- to lower-risk sports like racket games/soccer/frisbee/yard games with individual or distanced group training, no/low contact group training (practice), competitive practice and games, but still no tournaments. Only one person at a time should enter the platform court hut.

We will continue to monitor guidelines as they become available. All reopening will only occur as we can safely comply with state guidelines. Thank you for your patience. We look forward to seeing everyone again!

While there is a variety of opinions and personal choices during the covid crisis, our opening will be based solely on NYS guidelines. Please make your own determination about when you feel it is safe to return to the courts. The Social Center building and programming will not open until July 6 at the earliest.
