About the event
GRIT or Growing Inspired Resilient Teenagers, is inviting families who have teens interested in participating to join us for this informational session. During this session, our staff will share with teens and their families what our programming will look like, what kind of time and effort commitment it will be and we will address any questions that may come up. We anticipate this to take 30-45 minutes.Â
Question: What is GRIT?
Answer: GRIT is an outdoor recreational program designed to mentor teens in outdoor skills, and help them develop a greater sense of resiliency. This will be further explained at the session.
Q: Does it cost money to join? What does my teen need to do to participate?Â
A: This program is generously funded in part by the Adirondack Foundation and other community partners, so there is no fee to join. Interested teens MUST be Teen Rec members(also free to join) at the Elizabethtown Social Center, in grades 7 and above, and a parent or guardian MUST be present with them at the informational session to participate.Â
Q: My teen isn't a teen rec member, but I'd like to sign them up!
A: Great! Teen Rec membership is open to any teen(grades 6/age 12 and up) who resides in Boquet Valley School District. It just happens we have two sign up sessions on Wednesday the 27th at 3PM and 6PM. Please visit our website to RSVP to one of those sessions.Â
Q: I'd like for my teen to participate, but I know sometimes it can be expensive to have the right equipment to do outdoor activities, do you have a plan for this?
A: As part of another project we are presently working on at the Center, if there is any teen who wants to participate but is missing certain gear(be it backpack, boots, beanies) we will be able to supply most needed items with enough advance notice from the teen/family.Â
Q: If I have experience in the outdoors or enthusiasm to help out with this program, would you be in need of my assistance?
A: The short answer is, maybe! We love and appreciate the support and enthusiasm of our parents and community members. If you're interested in volunteering with this program as a mentor or chaperone, please contact Jon at Programs@elizabethtownsocialcenter.org. You can also show your support by sharing this event page, talk to you friends about it, or if you're in a place to--make a donation on our website to help us continue this and other programing in the future! (We are a 501(C)(3) organization.Â
