Welcome to Steven Walsh, our new Teen Rec Program Coordinator!
Hello, my name is Steven Walsh. I am a community member, volunteer, father, husband and now the new Recreation Coordinator for the Elizabethtown Social Center.
My family and I moved back to the area four years ago after ten years in the south. We love being back and enjoying the peace of small town life. I am not native to the area, though my wife is as she grew up in Elizabethtown. Small town life is nothing new to me as this area of the Adirondacks is very similar to that of northern NH. I was introduced to this area during my time at SUNY Plattsburgh and performed part of my student teaching at Elizabethtown School (BVCS). After college I explored a diverse field of work; food service, TV installer, construction project manager, substitute teacher, and as a laborer for a local surveyor. The past two years I have also spent as a stay at home dad for my children.
Raising a family in the town has made my family and I more involved in the community. My wife has reconnected with friends from her time in school here and we’ve become close with many of the families of the community. I have been babysitter for the kids and (if you ask around) am often the parent who plays / interacts with the children. For the past three years I’ve been involved in the Boquet Valley Youth Commission as a soccer coach, and last year joined the BVYC as a board member. I enjoy many hobbies, from participating in all sports to anything outdoors. I also enjoy being inside, music, podcasts, dancing, reading and games (table top and video). I consider myself a grown up child and have terrible dad puns to prove it.
I believe the best investment we can make is in the children and youth. They deserve all that we can give them; positive experiences, knowledge, laughter, respect and imagination. I'm excited to join the team at the Social Center and impart my experiences into the already great and growing programming that it offers. I want to thank the entire team at the Social Center and my soon to be predecessor, Jon McDonald for welcoming me into their family and teaching me the ropes.
Please stop by, reach out with questions / comments or just to say hi!
-Steve
