Who doesn’t love a fort? Our November event for children is shelter-building! (Teens and adults also welcome to come build) Fall is the time to get cozy under a home-made fort of leaves, sticks and everything else that can be found in our wild, wooded land down by the river. Lucy Misarski, a local outdoor education and wilderness guide, will lead youth in different styles of shelter building, as well as encouraging original designs. Leaf and Bark rubbing materials on hand to make nature inspired crafts, as well! Sunday, Nov 16 from 1p – 4p. For more details click here.

The Social Center is well known for our popular Teen Rec program, but we also regularly put on events for kids outside of our popular Teen Rec program. A few years ago, we noticed that most events in the region were primarily for adults. Bulletin boards were full of posters for bands, gallery openings and arts classes for adults - almost none were for kids.
So we were thrilled to receive two grants last spring that have allowed us to offer ongoing enrichment programs for youth - $5000 from the J.M. McDonald Foundation and $750 from the Essex County Arts Council.
Parents and caretakers – sign up for our newsletter to keep track of more events for youth. We also welcome your suggestions for programming. You can email us at news@elizabethtownsocialcenter.org or call (518) 873-6408.
Here's just a few of our favorite youth events from the past year:
The INSTRUMENT PETTING ZOO led by Vermont Folklife, where kids of ALL ages explored and played real instruments.
SEAGLE FESTIVAL CHILDREN'S OPERA
FAMILY FARM VISIT to SAND RIVER COMMUNITY FARM to help with harvesting and cook dinner!
